As the final race gun goes off and the results pop up on the screen, the Wagner XC girls fought a challenging battle against 7 of the toughest teams in the 26 5A alignment.
For many schools athletes, the culmination of their season is marked by success at the district meet, however, this year our team fell short despite an incredible journey filled with growth, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.
From the moment the season began, optimism was palpable. Practices were intense yet infused with laughter and a unity that would carry us through the season. Although we did not reach our ultimate goal to regionals, the season was not a failure. The bonds that were established, the lessons we learned and the growth we experienced were monumental!
We realize success is not defined solely on the outcome of the district meet, it’s about the journey, the friendships, the supportive parents and the character we developed along the way! The true measure of success is found in how we respond to adversity. Although our ultimate goal was not reached, Zoe Maricle, sophomore, marked a time of 20:21 as she soared in to the finish shoot. Zoe ran close to her teammates heel, Lillyanna Terry and eventually make her move to take the Wagner lead in the race. Zoe Maricle finished in the top 25 placing #23rd out of 63 finishers. Zoe Maricle is a promising asset that also runs the 800m, 400m and is a current member of the 4x400m relay. “ I’m just thankful for my coaches, teammates, and of course my number one fan, my mom and last but always first God” said Zoe. “I am looking forward to track season now that cross country is over.” Says Zoe.
Big huge thanks goes out to My parent platform says Coach Crawford, they have been a huge part of our community success. They provide snacks without being asked for the boys and the girls teams. They look out for both the male and female coaches. They have lead running routes, early morning carpools, help take my daughter to school while I finish workout and took off with getting shirts, backpacks, and more! Thank you for your service to the girls and to this team!
