Wagner Track Teams Triumphs at Edgewood Relays

**Wagner Track Team Triumphs at Edgewood Track Meet***February 5, 2025*

This past Wednesday, the Wagner Track Team showcased their athleticism and teamwork, clinching a resounding victory at the Edgewood Relays. Competing against several local schools, Wagner athletes demonstrated their dedication, skill, and determination, securing the top spot in multiple events.

The meet kicked off with a vibrant atmosphere as teams gathered to cheer on their athletes. Wagner’s standout performances began early in the day, with the sprinters setting a strong tone. The 4x100m relay ran in to a great challenge from MacArthur High school flying across the finish line to take first place at the JV and Varsity level. However, the T-Birds took revenge and dominated in the 400m dash (Zoe Maricle), (Tra’Mya Green, Lydia Love and Samantha Franco taking 1st m, 2nd, and 3rd LeRay Rector taking 2nd in the 200m dash Cisely Mathis claimed 2nd in the 100m, Marina Avalos claimed 2nd in the 1600m and Samatha Franco claimed 2nd in the 300 hurdles all showcasing impressive speed and agility.

In the field events, Wagner continued to excel, with Jasmine Kenney claiming victory in the long and triple jump followed by her teammates Amaiyah Tyler and Lydia Love taking 2nd and 3rd in the triple jump. Grace Butler dominating the shot put competition. Samantha Franco dominated the high jump claiming 1st place. JV Kayla Duke claimed 1st in the 400m Elijah Griffin 300 hurdles, and Damieyonna McKnight in the long jump. Their remarkable performances not only earned them medals but also contributed significant points to Wagner's overall score.

The girls’ team also made an indelible mark at the meet. Zoe Maricle seized first in the 800 meters and her teammate Lillyanna Terry claimed the 2nd place spot, demonstrating endurance and strategic pacing throughout the race. Additionally, the relay teams proved to be a force to be reckoned with, with the 4x200 Sullivan, Mathis, Rector, Kenney and 4x400 relays Maricle, Terry, Ward and Tyler, varsity and JV 4x400 Washington, Duke, Barber, Warren securing top finishes.

Head coach Meosha Hubbard Crawford praised the team's hard work and resilience as she sprints across the field the whole meet cheering everyone on while coaching the jumps stating, "I am incredibly proud of our athletes. They all have trained tirelessly since Sept 1st , and their efforts truly paid off today. This win is a testament to their commitment and spirit."

As the meet concluded, the Wagner Track Team celebrated their victory, taking home the first-place trophy both Varsity and JV and a renewed sense of confidence as they look forward to upcoming competition at East Central next Wednesday meet up with our sister school Judson High School and other power houses. “This is going to be a great meet” says Coach Crawford, “there will be a lot of great teams there and the competition is going to be big!”

Fans and supporters eagerly anticipate the next meet, where the Wagner Track Team hopes to continue to build on their momentum and improve on their times and distances in their events. Congratulations to all the athletes for their outstanding achievements and teamwork!
